World's first biodiesel rental car debuts on Maui

Kahului, Maui, Hawaii - Today Maui Recycling Service is proud to announce the debut of the Bio-Beetle rental car, the world's first biodiesel powered car rental.

The idea for a biodiesel rental car has been a long-time dream of Shaun Stenshol, owner of Maui Recycling Service. "The Bio-Beetle rental car gives the general public the opportunity to drive a renewably fueled car and offers them first hand experience that renewable fuels are available right now, and that they actually work!" said Stenshol.

"Biodiesel is one of the renewable fuels that can lead the way toward sustainability. This is my way of showing people that we have a choice, right now, to switch to fuels that can reduce our dependence on natural gas, oil, coal, and nuclear fuels, which are destroying our environment and contributing to foreign conflict." said Stenshol.

The first Bio-Beetle rental car is an unmodified 2000 Volkswagen Beetle diesel (TDI), which is powered by 100% biodiesel. Bio-Beetle will purchase all of its fuel from Pacific Biodiesel, who makes all of their fuel from used cooking oil. Biodiesel is available in many parts of the U.S., and is used extensively in Europe.

Maui Recycling Service is dedicated to environmental sustainability, and is actively working towards that goal. Bio-Beetle is just one more way to show what we can do, right now, to make a difference.
