ALL of our cars, except the Toyota Prius Hybrids, and electric cars run on 100% biodiesel. Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that does not contribute to Global Warming. Biodiesel on Maui is made from sustainable sources, such as recycled vegetable oil from restaurants.. Biodiesel can be used in virtually any diesel vehicle. All of our biodiesel cars are unmodified diesel vehicles, straight off the lot. Rudolph Diesel, the person who invented diesel engines, first ran the cars on peanut oil, with the intention that these vehicles could be powered sustainably! These vehicles run just like a "normal" gas or diesel powered car. You will most likely not be able to tell you are running on vegetable oil, unless you stand by the exhaust, and can breath freely! There is one biodiesel station, on Maui, with 100% biodiesel, PACIFIC BIODIESEL at 40 Hobron in Kahului, centerally located, by the airport. Thusly, you are never more than 60 miles from it. The Volkswagens get 35-40 MPG and over 400 miles on a gallon so most tourists drive a week without having to fuel up. In Emergencies one can use regular diesel, but we highly doubt you will ever need to.... You CAN make a difference!
